The large amounts of money handled in a casino make it a tempting target for criminals. Security measures are therefore paramount. Besides the obvious presence of guards, most casinos use elaborate surveillance systems. These allow security personnel to keep an eye on all tables, windows, and doorways at once. They can also adjust the cameras to focus on suspicious patrons, if necessary. This “eye-in-the-sky” system is especially helpful in spotting cheating, which is common at table games (palming cards, marking dice, etc). Other forms of casino crime are less easy to detect, but still possible: table dealers may steal from their clients, and pit bosses and managers must be alert for collusion between rival tables.
