Poker is a card game that has a wide variety of rules. The standard game is played with a deck of 52 cards (although some variations add additional jokers). Cards are ranked from Ace to King and are based on suit. Each suit is worth one point of value, and the ace is either high or low. Players “buy in” to the game by purchasing a certain number of chips. Then, between betting rounds, their hands develop.<\/p>\n
In theoretical poker, players double their stakes every time they raise. However, house rules generally only allow for a limited number of raises. Typically, the stakes get very high after about three or four raises. Increasing your stakes beyond that may force you to leave the game due to lack of funds.<\/p>\n
The best hand in the game is a straight flush, which consists of five cards in the same suit. In a straight flush, the ace may be high or low, but it cannot wrap around other cards. A straight flush is also known as a royal flush. This is a rare hand, which is only possible if you have five of a kind, but the high card is the winner.<\/p>\n
